Tracking

Tracking gives Pembroke Welsh Corgis an opportunity to use one of their most remarkable natural abilities—their keen sense of smell. In tracking competition, a dog follows a human scent trail across varied terrain, locating the path and, depending on the level, identifying articles that have been placed along the track. The sport requires concentration, determination, and close teamwork between the Pembroke and handler. While Pembrokes are best known for their herding heritage, their intelligence, persistence, and ability to work independently can make them enthusiastic tracking partners. Training takes patience and practice as handlers learn to trust their dogs and recognize the subtle changes in behavior that indicate they are following the correct scent. Tracking provides a rewarding way for Pembrokes to use their natural abilities while demonstrating the versatility and working spirit of the breed.
